Coaches Register
Membership
The Coaches Register renewal date is October 1st each year.
Membership of the Coaches Register is open to those coaches who have passed the old Leader, Intermediate or Advanced awards or any of the new UKCC awards.
Coaches must appear in name on the register in order to receive the Public Liability, Personal Accident and Professional Indemnity insurance detailed below. Optionally coaches can also be promoted through the Welsh Badminton website.
In addition acceptance onto the register is subject to the satisfactory completion of a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check requested by Welsh Badminton. CRB checks undertaken by other organisations are not acceptable as they are not transferrable.
You should also be aware of the requirements of the Government’s new Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) which will require any adult working with children and vulnerable adults on a regular basis to register with the authority. ISA registration is mandatory from November 2010 and Welsh Badminton will be ensuring that all coaches applying to the Coaches Register for the 2010-11 season and beyond are ISA registered. Further details about the ISA can be found at www.isa-gov.org.uk .
Fees
Fees for the 2009-10 season are set as follows:-
Individual Membership - £18
Family Membership - £30 (2 people in same family), £40 (3 people in same family), £50 (4 people in same family)
Following advice from our insurance company please note the following in relation to the fee for the Coaches Register:
- If you are fully affiliated to Welsh Badminton as a member of a club and that club has taken out the Welsh Badminton Public Liability / Professional Indemnity insurance then, provided that you are coaching for free, you will be covered by the club’s policy and therefore no fee is required.
- In all other circumstances the full fee is required in order for Welsh Badminton to provide Public Liability / Professional Indemnity insurance cover.
If you were a member of the register last year and/or the previous year and your details have not changed you can renew your membership by sending an email confirmation to rob.short@welshbadminton.net although you will still need to post the payment (where appropriate) to the office.
In all other cases you should complete and return the Coach Registration form to the Welsh Badminton office together with the payment (where appropriate).
Cheques should be made payable to 'WBU Ltd'.
If you would like to pay by Standing Order please contact Gareth Morris at the office on 029 20497225.
Coaches who have passed an award from the 1st April 2009 onwards will automatically be included on the register until 1st October 2010 subject to the satisfactory completion of a CRB check requested by Welsh Badminton.
Welsh Badminton will no longer be producing Coaches Register membership cards. Instead, on re-affiliation, you will be sent a letter confirming your membership for the 2009-10 season. As a result passport-sized photos are no longer required.
Insurance
Members of the Coaches Register automatically receive Personal Accident insurance designed to provide compensation following injury whilst playing, training and travelling to and from organised club activities. The standard benefits provided in previous seasons have been improved and cover for Medical Expenses, Physiotherapy, Loss of Income and Injury Assistance has now been provided as standard (in previous seasons this required an additional premium).
In addition members of the Coaches Register also receive Public Liability (up to £5 million) and Professional Indemnity (up to £1 million) insurance which provides cover for coaches who are found to be negligent in their duty to participants and spectators and as a result of their negligence cause personal injury or property damage.
Details of the insurance package can be found on the Insurance page.
Coach Upgrade Strategy
The recently published Welsh Badminton Coach Upgrade strategy can be found on the Coaching page. Please note that this will affect the acceptance criteria for membership of the Coaches Register for the 2010-11 season and beyond.
